Building the Internet One Website at a Time
Interactive media reaches beyond basic graphic design. The designer must think about the way people interact with a website. Above all usability is the most critical factor that must be considered. Your customers want to find the information they are looking for quickly and easily. Additionally, because we write our own code and have a background in design we can deliver a pixel perfect product every time.
So, You’re Asking How We Do It
We write W3C standards compliant CSS. What does this mean? The W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) is an organization that dictates the best practices available to build websites. CSS replaced the old table based HTML that was the standard for many years. This allows web developers to separate the content of the website from the code that controls the way it looks. This ultimately allows users to find content easier, pages to load faster, and updates can be made quicker.
To learn a little bit more about the code check out all the languages we know...
The Languages We Know
We speak a number of languages (aka code) that your server and internet browser will understand. That way we can help you translate your message to the web.
- HTML - HTML is the foundation of all websites. We write well organized HTML to ensure you have better search engine results.
- CSS - CSS tells your browser how the page should look. It also allows us to better organize your website by sepearting the content from the display code. This helps search engines find your content easier.
- PHP - PHP is a scripting lanaguage. It normally runs on Linux servers, but it can also run on Windows servers. We use PHP on the majority of websites and applications we build. It is fast, widely supported, and open source!
- ColdFusion - ColdFusion is a scripting language sold by Adobe. It allows for rapid application development, and can run on both Linux and Windows servers.
- ASP & ASPX - Classic ASP and Microsoft .NET are Windows based scripting languages. Classic ASP was pretty much replaced by the .NET Framework.
- Javascript - Javascript is a scripting language that allows us to develop advanced user interfaces. A lot of the "cool stuff" you see on the web these days uses is done with Javascript.
What is a Content Management System
A content management system (usually just called a CMS) is an application that allows you to login to an interface and update your website. Depending on your needs and budget we have a lot of different options available. We can build you a custom CMS if you need a particular workflow, or we can integrate an existing application for the budget conscious.
Here is a list of some of the tools we can work with:
- Mambo - CMS
- Joomla - CMS
- Ektron - CMS
- Magento - Shopping Cart
- WordPress - Blog
- Nucleus - Blog
- Open Realty - Real Estate Listings
